Feeding a 1-Year-Old is not all that different from feeding an 11-Month-Old.
Here are the Top 5 Feeding Tips for 1-Year-Olds:
- Feed your baby what you eat but cut it into small pieces. Steer clear of the choking hazards mentioned above.
- Offer 3 meals and 2 snacks per day.
- Limit your child’s intake of whole milk to 16-24 ounces per day. Why? Because solid foods should be his/her main source of nutrition at this age.
PediaTip: Offer whole milk in a sippy cup and see how it goes.
- Commit to family dinners but don’t expect your toddler to sit through a 5-course meal. 5-10 minutes is a victory at this point.
- Consider skipping the juice. Your child won’t miss what he/she never had. If you can’t resist giving juice, limit it to 4 ounces per day.
Exception: If your child has constipation issues, he/she may benefit from drinking small amounts of prune juice, apple juice, or pear juice. Prune juice mixed with milk doesn’t taste half bad.
