Strep throat is another infection that’s rearing its ugly head this cold & flu season, so let’s review who tends to get it and the top symptoms.

🦠Who Gets It? Strep throat is most commonly seen in school-aged kids and is rare in kids under 3 years old.🤒

📋What are the Symptoms of Strep Throat?

The Top 5 Symptoms of Strep Throat are:
😷A fever
😷A red, sore throat and pain with swallowing
😷Pus on the tonsils
😷Swollen glands (lymph nodes) in the neck
😷A stomachache with nausea and vomiting

Bonus Clue: Little red dots on the roof of the mouth (palatal petechiae).

👀Heads Up: Young children (especially those under 3-4 years old) with strep throat often have only a fever and a stomach ache — not the classic sore throat!

⚠️Complications can arise if the strep throat goes untreated or if it’s only partially treated. Examples of such complications include rheumatic fever, kidney disease, and throat abscesses.

So head over to your doctor if your child develops any of the above symptoms! Luckily, strep throat can be diagnosed quickly with a rapid strep test.
