Meet the Doctor
Hi! My name is Dr. Blair Farr and I’m a board-certified pediatrician and Mom of two based in Washington, D.C. I went to Princeton for college, Georgetown University for medical school, and stayed at Medstar Georgetown Hospital for my pediatric residency. I have a special interest in kids with chronic medical issues and in helping parents (and other caregivers) navigate the ups & downs of raising children. I’m an animal lover, a sports enthusiast, and a certified mindfulness instructor.
My Goals With PediaWise are To:
1. Offer an insider’s perspective on how prenatal providers and pediatricians approach healthcare issues.
2. Keep parents informed about current medical info in an easy and low-stress way.
3. Build a community of caregivers who raise each other up within an inclusive and judgement-free space.
It Does Take a Village to Raise a Child and I Hope to Create One Through PediaWise!

How PediaWise Was Born
The Need
As both a pediatrician and a mother of two, I understand the need for legitimate, accessible, and fun-to-read information about pregnancy and child health.
The Problem
The Internet Can Be a Double-Edged Sword
Studies show that most parents turn to the internet when seeking information about their child’s health. But searching the internet for solutions to pediatric medical problems (and pregnancy issues) is like going down an anxiety-inducing rabbit hole; there’s too much information in too many different places, and much of it’s conflicting and from unverified sources. It’s even hard for OB/GYNs and pediatricians to keep up!
Health Searches are a Time Suck
Internet health searches are time-consuming and often lead to more questions than answers. Plus, medical info can be pretty boring to read.
Doctor’s Visits Don’t Always Cut It
It’s hard for pediatricians to cram everything into a 15-minute visit (the average length of a pediatric visit in the U.S. is 16.4 minutes). It’s also difficult for parents to remember what was said during the visit and to feel like all of their questions were answered.
The Doctor Isn’t Always In
As much as OB/GYNs and pediatricians want to be available to their patients outside of the office visits, there are usually too many patients and not enough hours in the day. In addition, parents and expectant couples are often afraid to “bother” doctors with “non-urgent” questions.
The Solution
PediaWise: Your one-stop shop for trustworthy and easy-to-read prenatal and pediatric information that’s researched, edited, and written by a board-certified pediatrician.

PediaWise (and its parent company, Bedside Matters, LLC) was founded by Dr. Blair Farr (that’s me!).
Here’s a Bit About Myself…
I’m a board-certified pediatrician and Mom of two based in Washington, D.C.
I see PediaWise as a “one-stop shop” where parents & parents-to-be can find relevant, evidence-based, and easy-to-read health information in ONE place. I research, write, and edit all of the content, myself.
I hope to build a strong community of caregivers through PediaWise and am always open to feedback and suggestions.
PediaWise is for anyone who’s expecting a child or who’s raising (or taking care of) a child 0-3 years of age. This includes Moms-to-be, partners of Moms-to-be, single parents, parents expecting via a surrogate, adoptive parents, same-sex couples, teachers, nannies, grandparents, etc.
In a Nutshell: All are Welcome!
PediaWise avoids the Google trap by acting as a central source of legitimate health information (covering pregnancy through the toddler years).
With PediaWise You Can:
1. Search for (and find) specific prenatal and pediatric information that you can trust.
2. Use the weekly PediaGuides to help you navigate your pregnancy and the first 3 years of your child’s life.
3. Be “in the know” about important news topics that pertain to your pregnancy and to your child’s health. These news topics will appear in the regularly-updated PediaFeed section on the website and in the free weekly newsletter (that you can sign up for).
You can also choose to receive relevant alerts & reminders via email. For example, we’ll send you breaking news about COVID-19 (in a non-hysterical way) and a friendly reminder when it’s time to get your child’s flu shot.
4. Learn the “why” behind your doctor’s recommendations. For example, get the 411 on why doctors get jazzed up about a fever in a 2-week-old but are more laid back about a fever in a 2-year-old.
5. Read medical info that’s written in a style that doesn’t automatically put you to sleep.
Yes, you can trust the information on PediaWise. My content is built upon guidelines and recommendations from multiple well-respected health organizations. These organizations are the gold standard when it comes to prenatal & pediatric information. They include (but aren’t limited to):
- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
- The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
- The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- The World Health Organization (WHO).
In addition to these sources, I incorporate what I’ve learned through my training & experience as a pediatrician, and I regularly pore over pediatric periodicals, major newspapers, healthcare websites, textbooks, and a lot of other boring stuff you probably wouldn’t want to read.
I try to provide information in an unbiased way by using research-based facts & recommendations for the skeleton of my content. That being said, my experience as a pediatrician leads me to interpret certain information (especially the gray areas) in specific ways.
For example, even though there are hundreds of books on parenting, there isn’t one “right” way to do the job (unfortunately). I will put my 2 cents in for these types of topics (based on what I’ve seen in practice and with my own children), and will do my best to let you know when that’s happening.
Because of the strict clinical practice guidelines (and not wanting to get sued), I do not provide 1-on-1 medical advice through PediaWise. (Hence my Disclaimer).
My goal, instead, is to keep parents and parents-to-be informed, so they can go to their prenatal visits & their child’s pediatric visits empowered with reliable and up-to-date information.
That being said, I do take general questions from the audience and answer as many of them as possible in the frequently updated (and free) PediaFeed section of the website. If you have a question or want more information, reach out to me at info@pediawise.com. If you have feedback or suggestions, email me at feedback@pediawise.com.
The PediaWise website has many components and there are multiple ways to search for information. Here are the key features of the website:

- The PediaGuides: These guides will walk you through each week of your pregnancy & the first 3 years of your child’s life. ALL of the PediaGuides are included in the “premium membership.”
- Question of the Week: This section of the website provides answers to questions that tend to crop up during pregnancy & the first year of a child’s life. They’re meant to supplement the info in the weekly PediaGuides and are available to premium members only. Note: There are no Questions of the Week for the Toddler Years (1-3 Years).
- Hot Topics: The Hot Topics section of the website includes hundreds of searchable topics. These topics are organized into categories (such as pregnancy, baby, and toddler) for your convenience. The FULL content is available to premium members only.

I’m always adding new topics and additional details about existing topics to the website, as well.

Reading medical information can be a real snooze-fest. It also tends to stress people out.
Boring + Stressful = NOT FUN.
I prefer to take a lighter approach and mix things up a bit.
I currently provide information from the start of pregnancy until 3 years of age because I find that current parents & expectant parents have the most questions and concerns about these stages.
That being said, I hope to grow with your family and eventually add information through the teen years. Stay tuned!
