The Problem

Finding Information That You Can Trust Can Feel Impossible

The Internet Is a Double-Edged Sword

Searching the internet for solutions to pregnancy issues is like going down an anxiety-inducing rabbit hole; there’s too much information in too many different places, and much of it is conflicting and from unverified sources.

Health Searches are a Time Suck

Internet health searches are time-consuming and often lead to more questions than answers. Plus, medical information can be pretty boring to read and difficult to understand.

The Doctor Isn’t Always In

As much as OB/GYNs want to be available to their patients outside of the office visits, there are usually too many patients and not enough hours in the day. Moreover, expectant parents are often afraid to “bother” their doctor with “non-urgent” questions.

FAQs

Common Questions

Who Wrote the Content for the Pregnancy PediaGuide?

The Answer: Dr. Blair Farr (that’s me!)

Hi! I’m Dr. Blair Farr. I’m a board-certified pediatrician and mom of two teens. I research, write, and edit all of the content on the PediaWise website, so you get the information you need, when you need it, from one reliable source. To learn more about me, check out the “Meet Dr. Blair” page here.

What Sets PediaWise Apart?

PediaWise avoids the Google trap by acting as a central source of legitimate health information (covering pregnancy through the toddler years).

With PediaWise You Can:
1. Search for (and find) specific prenatal (and pediatric) information that you can trust.
2. Use the weekly PediaGuide articles to help you navigate your pregnancy.
3. Be “in the know” about important news topics that pertain to your pregnancy.
4. Learn the “why” behind your OB/GYN’s or your midwife’s recommendations. For example, you’ll get the 411 on why they test for gestational diabetes & Group B Strep during your pregnancy and why hot dogs, sushi, and brie are (sadly!) off the menu.
5. Read medical info that’s written in a style that doesn’t automatically put you to sleep.

Where Do You Get Your Information and Can I Trust It?

Yes, you can trust the information on the PediaWise website. My content is built upon guidelines and recommendations from multiple well-respected health organizations. These organizations are the gold standard when it comes to prenatal (and pediatric) health information. They include (but aren’t limited to):

  • The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
  • The World Health Organization (WHO).
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
  • The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).

In addition to these sources, I incorporate what I’ve learned through my training & experience as a pediatrician, and I regularly pore over prenatal and pediatric periodicals, major newspapers, healthcare websites, textbooks, and a lot of other boring stuff you probably wouldn’t want to read.

What’s With the Informal Language & Cartoon Pics?

Reading medical information can be a real snooze-fest. It also tends to stress people out. Boring + Stressful = NOT FUN. I prefer to take a lighter approach and mix things up a bit.

I Have a Specific Question About My Pregnancy. Do You Provide 1-on-1 Advice?

Because of the strict clinical practice guidelines in medicine, I do not provide 1-on-1 medical advice through PediaWise – hence my disclaimer.

My goal, instead, is to keep expectant parents informed, so they can go to their prenatal visits empowered with information that’s up-to-date, research-based, and easy to digest.

That being said, I do take general questions from the audience and answer as many of them as possible through the PediaWise website and social media.

If you have a question or want more information, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at drblair@pediawise.com. If you have feedback or suggestions, please email me at feedback@pediawise.com.
